My name is Sabrina and I am 28 years old, I have been married to my husband for almost eight years, and we have three beautiful children. My oldest son Dakota is almost 7 and he is in the first grade. He loves to read (still learning) and enjoys writing although he really needs some practice! He is getting TOO big TOO fast! My son Brody is getting ready to turn 5 and he is such a ball of energy it makes me nuts, he was in preschool before we made our big move to Nevada in February, but now he's home with me everyday and he is loving it! My daughter Emma is 3 1/2 years old and she is the funniest thing ever! She loves her Daddy way more than she loves me, but I am okay with that. Daddies and daughters have a special bond and I love to see theirs in the making...
It hurts my heart to think that there was a time that I thought I would never be able to have my "little girl". Both of my sons were born with the same heart defect and we were told not to have any more children because they would likely be sick as well. Emma was our "surprise" and it was the scariest nine months we have ever lived through! But she was born with a perfect heart and a beautiful love for life! She made our family complete and she added that last little piece that had been missing in my heart...
Dakota and Brody both have Pulmonary Stenosis (narrowing in the pulmonary arteries) and both went through emergency open heart surgery - Dakota at 16 months, Brody at 4 months. As a mother, my heart was broken. I thought I was going to lose both of my boys, the fear was unimaginable. But our faith was strong, God is good. My life as a mother had changed forever and with that, my life as a person began to change...I was majoring in Business at the time, but going through that whole ordeal made me realize that nursing was the only option for me. We met so many caring people, and they are what pulled us through. I want to be that to someone else... I also never want to sit in another waiting room and listen to doctors ramble on about something that I cannot fully understand. So, I am now working on finishing up my business degree while I await acceptance into the nursing program here in Nevada. This year I am throwing myself into working with the American Heart Association full force. Heart disease is killing people, both young and old. It's time to make a difference, and do my part to make sure that other parents like me can one day stand and tell their successful "Heart Story". I am just taking life one day at a time and thanking God that I am so blessed...
